"Ludovico Carracci (1555-1619) the cousin of Annibale and Agostino Carracci, was also Annibale's first teacher.  He was the head of the Carracci Academy, which he and his cousins founded in Bologna in 1582.  From May 31 to July 13, 1602, he is documented as working on the vault of the Gallery of the Palazzo Farnese, and according to Malvasia he was in Rome  again late in life.  As head of the Carracci Academy he had many pupils, among them Domenichino, Francesco Albani, and Guido Reni.  Ludovico was trained by the Bolognese painter Camillo Procaccini but later came under the influence of Federico Barocci, Correggio, and especially Annibale Carracci.  In the 1580s and early 1590s he collaborated with his two cousins in the fresco decorations of the Palazzo Fava and the Palazzo Magnani in Bologna and began receiving commissions for altarpieces from leading Bolognese families.  Ludovico organized the funeral of his cousin Agostino, held on January 18, 1605, in the church of the Ospedale della Morte, Bologna, and contributed to the decorations."
