Lauren Hutton

November 1970 in the pages of Vogue. Lauren Hutton was the supermodel of the moment, photographed by Richard Avedon. Below she explains what lay behind her success with all-powerful editor, Diana Vreeland  "She must have been starting to see these few young girls, who were showing up, with very little make-up, and their hair right out of the shower, with T-shirts, no bras, and jeans and sneakers. I think she saw that I was one of these new things. I wasn't this swan, these European put-together '50s swans. I was sort of the new American idea."  Magazine pages reproduced from Diana Vreeland : The Eye Has To Travel by Lisa Immordino Vreeland.
