Gloria

In 1969 Richard Avedon photographed Gloria Vanderbilt Cooper for Vogue. The editorial copy running alongside these images reported that . . . "Recently Mrs. Cooper's fastidious fashion instinct and imagination were fired by her rediscovery of her own collection of Fortuny dresses."

A few months later Vogue ran another photo-spread (by Horst P. Horst) of the same subject in her newly-done-up "patchwork bedroom."

I actually remember reading these issues of the magazine as they appeared. Gloria Vanderbilt's "fastidious fashion instinct" received such powerful promotion from her friend Diana Vreeland at Vogue that the heiress with the famous name soon started her own profitable fashion business, manufacturing blue jeans with swans embroidered on the pockets.
