The late-summer Midwestern landscape where I grew up looked much the same as this one. The contours and the greens – it is possible to feel vaguely & pleasurably nostalgic for these, even in the absence of pleasant memories.
A different nature now. Triumphant trees in urban spaces. Seen here along the edge of Duboce Park.
But not all of nature is green, and not all cornfields are green. Cornfield by Moonlight was painted and drawn by Samuel Palmer almost 200 years ago.
